Rotary Club of Jakarta proudly presents a musical drama “Mentari Dari Rimba”.
Stemming from our concern for the future of Suku Anak Dalam’s children in Jambi, the Rotary Club of Jakarta in conjunction with its 50th anniversary will hold a fundraising event to support the education of Suku Anak Dalam’s children called “Mentari dari Rimba, Merengkuh Mimpi si Buta Aksara” (Sun from The Jungle, Embracing The Dream of The Illiterate). The event will be held on 20 December 2020 from 6.30 – 9 PM (Jakarta, GMT +7) via Online. Collaborating with SEAD and Indorelawan.
Suku Anak dalam is the name of a minor tribe living in the forest of Sumatra. They have limited access to education due to their nomadic lifestyle and also their separation from the outside world. However, in 2004, Butet Manurung initiated Sokola Rimba (The Jungle School) to teach reading, writing, and counting to them while also preparing them to face future challenges.
“When you see them, you’d question yourself, why can’t I be grateful for the things that God has given to me? meanwhile out there, there is still plenty of people who are far from living a proper life” – Butet Manurung, founder of Sokola Rimba.
