The main objective of Rotary is service – in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotarians develop projects that address many of today’s most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence.
Rotary Clubs also support programs for Youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, vocational and career development.
The Club Service and Vocational Service both help us to enjoy life and to be good citizens. Community Service and Vocational Service combine to make our local communities better places for us to live and work. International Service permits us to partner with clubs in other countries and on different continents to make the world a better place to live, with an improved opportunity for world understanding, goodwill, and peace.
The school before renovation
For Rotary Club Jakarta supports a Primary School (SDN 01 Karet Tengsin), which is located behind high rise office buildings, apartments, hotels. This School has been suffering from flood in the rainy season due to the location of school building being lower than the street level. But the flood did not stop the children to go to school, nor the teachers. The teachers’ dedication is to teach and guide their pupils to a better future.
Rotary Club Jakarta also has raised fund through the “Voices of Magic” Concert with the supports from some companies. We started in September 2009 to provide the children additional nutrition to enable them to grow and develop better academically. PT SC Johnson has donated computers and library racks. They have been waiting for many years for the children to be able to study in a dry class. The School’s wish for a renovation and elevation was finally realized by the Department of Education. It started in July 2010 and was completed by end of October 2010 . The school was elevated about 50 cm. The playground is still in the same condition, but the school building is now higher.
